TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

It is reported that Slieve Donard has been doing well and is shaping in improved style on the track. The Grattan Loyal gelding Scotch Music, who has won three of his last four races, is among those engaged at Ashburton. Dusky Sound is now in the stable controlled'by L. A. Maidens, who has sold his farm at Ashburton, and intends confining his work to training. Colonel Grattan is not regarded as hopeless as a racing proposition, and is one of the regular attendants at Addington. Springfield Globe is reported to have trained on since racing at the Easter meeting at Addington. He will probably not be at his best until the back end of the season. He has won in and has two engagements at Ashburton. The Ashburton Trotting Club has received an excellent list of acceptances for its final meeting of the season, and such a card of good fields assures a successful day’s racing. The Sapling Stakes of £IOOO, has a field of a dozen, including Scottish Emperor and Acropolis, two of the best seen in action this season. Apparently the balance of the field has trained on and the race is not therefore, to be a duel between Scottish Emperor and Acropolis. Some excuse was made for Acropolis in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes, but Scottish Emperor won so well that he will probably start favourite at Ashburton.
