STRAND THEATRE

DOUBLE-FEATURE PROGRAMME In the excellent double-feature programme presented at the Strand Theatre yesterday, pride of place is given to a gangster thriller, “Baby-face Morgan,” with Richard Cromwell playing the part of an innocent youth from a small town who is suddenly and unknown to himself made head of a big city gangster mob. The real “ brain ” of the gangsters is Robert Armstrong, who, as “ Doc ” Rogers, conceives the idea of reviving the mob after the death of Big Mike Morgan, their chief. He brings the dead gangster’s son, Edward, to the city, and sets him up as president of the Acme Protection Agency, which insures trucking concerns against loss when the gang wrecks the trucks. Then the fun starts, with all the truckers almost begging the gang to destroy their trucks, because the benevolent insurance company, under Baby Face, pays off the policies without question. A thrilling war drama, " Women in War,” is the supporting picture, with Elsie Janis, Wendy Barrie, Patric Knowles, and Mae Clarke in the principal roles.
