((Special) CHRISTCHURCH, May 28. Though the rain has ceased, the tracks are very soft, and with so many horses absent at the Dunedin meeting there was very little doing this morning. ,■ T. H. Gillett had Dividend out, and he did pace work. He has made good progress in the last few weeks, since Mr A. Syme bought him at the sale of the late Mr E. Hay’s horses. With the ground improved for jumping by the recent rain, he will have a run soon over a few hurdles, but as, his new owner intends to take on steeplechases, no time will be lost before he starts on his education over the brush fences. „ “ ' . A letter received from G. Barr states that, owing to the time occupied in a slow train journey, Erination was not able to show his best in the Te Rapa Steeplechase. He has done well since then, and he should produce improved form in the Great Northern. ' Sir Gundi has resumed useful work, after a short spell, and A. McAulay hopes to have him ready for a race in August. Gavfort is having a rest for a week before taking on more strenuous tasks for the spring.
