THE FINAL GALLOPS
The weather was dull and overcast at Wingatui yesterday morning, but fairly mild. Training operations were a bit late ' in starting, but after 7 o’clock the course presented a busy appearance, and the stalls have never been so. fully occupied on, the eve‘of a meeting. The work consisted mostly of short sprints and from half pace to strong striding tasks. The outside of the course was open, and the horses only turned up a .slight lip, showing the going to be fairly firm.: The inside half of the course has an unbroken surface, and’ will provide good going for the time of the year. Some Sing and Saldowa-left half a mile ’ behind them in 5'5. 2-ssec, and Salabond required 57sec to cover the same ground. • Irish'Ruler and Taxpayer finished with a sprint over three furlongs in 43 2-ssec. Fairy Bard and Patria cast half a mile behind in 53 4-ssec. Phalanx travelled six furlongs in lmin 25 l-ssec. Anglo-Irish and Colonel Rouge put up lmin 10 3-ssec for five furlongs. La Boca and Edward galloped over six furlongs in lmin 25 3-ssec. 1 Rawhamai and Paladeo were com- . panions in useful work. Anglo-French and El Caballo at the sod wall on the Steeplechase course and gave a fine display over a circuit of . the country, but missed the brush at the i seven-furlong post. Unfortunately El Caballo cut a tendon and had to be destroyed. • Waitoru was schooled over two flights l of hurdles. , • Amorlad, Platform, Bashful Lady, Royal Chdrus, Spanish Lad, Doubleack, Night ■'‘ Lancer, Benevolent, St.. Cloud, Strip, Bali, and a number of other*! got through useful tasks. ' ■ 1 \
