MAURICE CHEVALIER

“LAVAL OF THE STAGE” LONDON, May 27. “Maurice Chevalier is to the stage what Laval is to politics,” declared Josephine Baker upon her arrival in Algiers to entertain the troops. She added: “ Chevalier and I played together at the beginning of the war for the purpose of whipping up British and French spirit. Now he is helping Goebbels to keep up German morale. He has even performed in Berlin.” Miss Baker was wrongly reported as dead before the Allied occupation of North Africa, but turned up in Casablanca.
