SERVICE IN THE NAVY

THE FAMILY LIMITATION EXPLANATION OF POSITION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 2. The recent dismissal of an appeal by the Railways Department against a man with nine children, six of whom were dependents, joining the Royal New Zealand Navy has created the impression that there is no limitation to the number of children of applicants for general services in the navy. It is officially stated that this applies only in the case of entry for shore service. With regard to service afloat in the Royal New Zealand Navy, there is a general limitation that married men with more than one child cannot be accepted. In cases where applicants have special professional or technical qualifications and their services afloat are particularly required, this limitation may, however, be waived.
