FERTILISER QUOTAS

REQUEST FOR INCREASE DECLINED (Special) ' OAMARU, Apl. 30. In reply to the request of the Enfield farmers, made through the North .Otago Farmers’ Union, that farmers producing wheat on the lighter types of land should receive an additional allocation of fertiliser, the director of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture (Mr P. W. Smallfield) advised the union to-day, that, in view of the shortage of fertiliser, he regretted his inability to consider the request favourably.

Mr Smallfield said that the wheat crop had been given favourable treatment, and that the present fertiliser allocation was in line with .that normally used for the purpose. Supplies of fertiliser were becoming more and more difficult to obtain, and an increase for any crop could only be obtained by taking fertiliser from •ome other crop or from top-dressing. The letter was received.
