MAYFAIR THEATRE
A stirring drama inspired by the story of Edna Gladney, a pioneer in the field of child welfare work, “ Blossoms in the Dust,” will commence a season at the Mayfair Theatre to-day. This dramatic and touching story opens in the bright and gay period of 1906, when lovely Edna Kahley falls in love with and marries Sam Gladney. When Mrs Gladney observes the difficulties women workers in her husband’s flour mill have in caring for their children, she 'becomes intensely interested in child welfare. The heroic story of her successes, failures, joys, and tragedies is told in the ensuing scenfes, perhaps the most notable of which is her stirring speech to the sceptical American Congress when she pleads for reforms. Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon, as Mr and Mrs Gladney, give sterling performances. “ Bombay Clipper,” an actionpacked adventure film, with William Gargan, Irene Hervey, and Charles Lang, is the supporting picture. Box plans are at the theatre and the D.I.C.
