EXCITING DOUBLE-FEATURE PROGRAMME An exciting drama of the Pacific, ” Prisoner of Japan,” is the star attraction on the new programme at the Strand Theatre. The story tells of an American girl who has been hostess at one of the island cafes and a young American planter, who fall in love ana then make the supreme sacrifice in order to save a United States convoy from destruction by Japanese bombers. Alan Baxter gives an accomplished performance as the young planter who is under the domination of a Japanese agent, played by Ernest Dorian. Gertrude Michael, as Toni, the American girl who learns while on a visit to Japan of the sinister designs of the Japanese Government, gives an excellent performance, and Corinna Mura, the wellknown operatic singer of Latin America, also has a prominent role. The second feautre is “Lure of the Islands.” Margie Hart is seen as a half-caste %irl of the South Seas, who becomes the centre of a series of exciting events when the island on which she lives becomes the centre of Japansee intrigue. The story is filled with the romantic colour of the South Seas. Box plans are at the theatre.
