EMPIRE THEATRE
DRAMA OF THE CIRCUS The dramatic story of a circus company is told in "The Wagons Roll" at Night,” which commenced at the Empire Theatre yesterday. Humphrey Bogart has the leading role as the hard and cynical proprietor who rules his company with a hand of iron, but has a soft spot for his young sister (Joan Leslie), for whom he maintains a country home. Almost continual trouble befalls the circus when Eddie Albert joins it after having cornered an escaped lion with a pitchfork when it enters the store where he was employed. Bogart later dismisses the old, drunken lion-tamer, and Albert takes his place. The old lion-tamer comes back and picks a fight with Eddie, and while they are fighting one of the lions escapes and mangles the old man, with almost fatal results. Bogart plans a unique revenue, and its unexpected results bring the dramatic story to a climax. Box plans are at the theatre and the D.I.C.
