MEETING OF DIRECTORS The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors was held recently. Mrs Fairbairn presided, and there were also present Mesdames C. M. Begg, F. Derek-Smith, R. Ellis, P. L. Ritchie, R. Watson, E. Young, E. R. Kerr, Misses H. Wilson and K. Standage. A welcome was extended to Miss Standage, who took her seat as honorary treasurer. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the board to Messrs J, Hogg and L. H. Frude for assistance given during the finance campaign. Mrs Begg presented a statement of the results of the campaign, the amount received being £1674. The resignation of Miss N. Wright, activities secretary, was received with regret. The questions of the membership fees of girl members was referred to the committees dealing with girls’ activities with a recommendation from the board. The financial statement for March was presented by Miss Standage, and accounts amounting to £394 were passed for payment. Mrs Kerr, chairman of the Membership Committee, reported that five women had joined during the month, and it was decided to hold a welcome party about the end of May. The hostel report stated that there w r ere 51 girls in residence, and 69 transient visitors had stayed for varying periods, while nine applicants for permanent board were unable to secure accommodation. The Braemar Hostel report showed 32 girls in residence.
Mrs R. Watson presented the activities report, which showed that there were 238 girls belonging to clubs. For the sports department Miss Wilson stated that the basketball clubs had had their annual meetings, and practices were being held. A, short report was presented from the Milton Hostel.
The general secretary reported that the Co-ed Club had been transferred to the care of the Rev. A. McDowall, director of the Methodist Youth Movement. A short report of the recent meeting of the National Board was presented by Mrs Begg and Miss Wilson, National- Board members. Emphasis was laid upon the establishment of the Woburn hostels, the position of finances in the Chinese Y.W.C.A., and reports from the Hamilton and Whangarei Associations. The National Board had decided to appoint to the national staff an expert in physical culture. It was decided that the National World Fellowship Committee should draw up a plan for study on world reconstruction for local associations, using material from the world’s office.
