THE MEDICAL SCHOOL

UNIVERSITY COUNCIL CRITICISED The statement that if the University authorities did not make provision for an increased number of students at the Dunedin Medical School, the only remedy would be to start a medical school in another centre, was made by Dr D. G. McMillan, M.P., at the monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board on Thursday night. The University Council was aware of the fact that some 270 students had been admitted to New Zealand colleges for the first year of the course. Next year there would be over 200 second - year students, and the council was making no provision for them. The Government was willing to assist. The council knew that, but it would give no satisfaction in regard to what jt required. ~ , The situation would develop into chaos Dr McMillan continued, and if another school was started the council would be to blame. Its attitude was very disappointing.
