Mr W Perry. M.L.C., Dominion president of' the R.S.A., arrived in Dunedin yesterday. He will leave to-day for visits to Invercargjl) and Gore. Lieutenant-commander A. C. Swanson left for Auckland on Thursday morning. Inspector E. T. C. Turner arrived from Christchurch on Thursday on transfer to the Dunedin police district. Mr and Mrs James Barron, of Palmerston have received advice that their son. Flight Lieutenant J. F. Barron, D. 5.0., D.F.C., D.F.M., has been promoted to the rank of squadron leader. At a meeting of the Otago Hospital Board on Thursday night Dr A. R. Somerford, of Manchester, England, was appointed to the position of resident medical officer at the Dunedin Hospital. Wing Commander T. J. Denton, R N.Z.A.F., has been promoted to the rank of acting group captain. One of the original officers of the R.N.Z.A.F., Group Captain Denton served in the last war in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and the Royal Flying Corps. He was attached to the R.A.F. in the United Kingdom in April, 1938, as senior equipment officer, and in 1940 was promoted to the rank of wing commander. He returned to New Zealand as director of equipment in November, 1941, and held that post until recently, when he was appointed inspector of equipment and deputy to the Air Force member for supply. The Otago Hospital Board, at its meeting on Thursday night, accepted with regret the resignation of Miss M. B. Farquhar as a member of the board. A minute was adopted stating that Miss Farquhar had represented the combined district of Dunedin and West Harbour for 10 years Before her election and since then she had been a frequent visitor to the Hospital, particularly to the children’s wards. Miss Farquhar had occupied the position of chairman of the House Committee, and by her loyalty and devotion to duty had earned the respect and esteem, not only of the members of the board, but of the citizens of Dunedin.
