INVERCARGILL TRACK WORK
(Special) INVERCARGILL, Mar. 16. The extreme outside of the course proper was open for Oamaru candidates at Invercargill this morning, and the going was soft. The Cup horses, Royal Lancer and Royal Chorus, had another bout over a mile, and this tiirne honours. easily went to Royal Lanqer, who recorded lmin 49 2-ssec. the last four furlongs in 55 l-ssec. Royal Lancer bears a bright appearance. but he may be short of a gallop on Saturday. He will probably be ridden by A. E. Ellis. Royal Chorus slipped about in the going, but he looks really fit, and will give a good accoufit of himself on Saturday if the going is dry. He will be ridden bv L. J. Ellis. Carpos has trained on nicely since the Gore meeting, when a slow track was blamed for his poor showing, and r.e should race well in the high-weight if he gets the race to suit him. Royal Brief was going better than Filibeg at the end of six furlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec, the first two in 26sec, but Filibeg, who is in good order, is not. partial to soft going. . Other Oamaru candidates in Sascha, Bantas, and Carolyn should race well'. Thev were given strong work this morning. The contingent will be railed through to Oamaru to-morrow. F. W. Ellis will return with Royal Lancer after the meeting, but he may leave Carolyn and Filibeg in the north until after the Waimate fixture. Spanish Lad has recovered from the effects of the kick he received on the eve of the Gore meeting, and is back in work again, looking all the better for his Short spell.
