INFANT WEAR
SHORTAGE OF WOOL AND BLANKETS The Dominion Executive of the Plunket Society, at its meeting yesterday morning, discussed the alarming shortage of baby wool and cot blankets, and detailed the efforts made over the past year to have the position rectified. A recent survey by the society disclosed that materials for baby clothes are totally unobtainable throughout New Zealand. The opinion was expressed that, in view of the fact that wool suitable for infant wear was grown in the Dominion and that New Zealand mills before the war had manufactured very suitable yarn for this purpose, it seemed unreasonable to expect Britain to supply New Zealand’s requirements at this time when babies at Home are going short and shipping space is required to transport it. ; The following resolution was passed:—" That in view of the fact that it had been made public that defence requirements are being curtailed, the Government be asked to take steps to make New Zealand manufactured baby wool and cot blankets available immediately.” v
