BATTLE WITH SUBMARINE

GREEK DESTROYER’S SUCCESS (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Mar. 13. Norwegian and Greek naval communiques were issued to-day. The former records the loss of the Norwegian minesweeper Harstad. The latter describes attacks by the Greek destroyer Adrias on a U-boat which was attempting to close on a convoy in the North Atlantic. The submarine was forced to the surface by depth charges, and the Adrias opened fire with her guns, also attempting to ram the submarine, which, however, crashdived. The destroyer made a second attack with depth charges, and, as the noise of the explosions faded, three columns of smoke rose from the surface of the sea to a great height. For an hour the Adrias searched the area, but there was no further trace of the U-boat, which is believed to have been sunk.'
