SERVICE APPEALS
SITTING OF No. I BOARD
The No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board— Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman), W. R. Clarke, and J. C. H. Somerville—held a sitting in Dunedin yesterday. Appeals which were adjourned sine die were made by Robert Malcolm, Ltd., for E. G. Hirichcliff, manager; Dunedin town clerk for A. L. McDonald, night shift foreman and electrician; R. M. Read, tramway employee (own appeal against Home Guard service). In an appeal by C. S. Jenkins and Co., Ltd., for N. O. Wright, plumber, release for three weeks was recommended. Extension of leave until February 28 was recommended in an appeal by C. F. Henry, baker (own appeal), and in an appeal by A. C. Sharkey for R. J. Lowrery, wool presser, an extension of leave until March 31 was recommended. An appeal by John Mill and Co., Ltd., for J. W. Barker, was adjourned until March 31. Release for an indefinite period, to be reviewed by July 31, 1943, was recommended in an appeal by Mrs M. B. Grant for H: J. Grant, farm worker. In an appeal by Quality Bottled Milk, Ltd , for T. E. Fahey, lorry driver, a decision that the reservist should not be called up before February 28 was given. The following appeals were dismissed:— W. J. Adamson for C. J. Adamson, apprentice painter; G. N. Jack, sheep farmer (own appeal); E. H. McD. Moore, boot and shoe repairer (own appeal against Home Guard service); John Mill and Co., Ltd., for H. N. Treurn, foreman stevedore.
