SALVAGE OF WASTE PAPER
Sir, —I was very pleased to read the
' Sir—My attention has been drawn to a letter signed by Major Thorne, of the Salvation Army, Christchurch, which appears in this morning’s 1 issue of your paper. I must disclaim any knowledge of or responsibility for "the remarks attributed to me, viz., “ Dunedin has the satisfaction of knowing that Christchurch has the doubtful distinction of being the worse offender in respect of sending junk to a depot, if there be any satisfaction in that.” I certainly was greatly impressed with, and paid a well-deserved tribute to, the wonderful work being done by the ladies and gentlemen at the Dunedin depot, but I made no comparison with other centres, as I know nothing of the work being done in connection with waste paper at other centres throughout New Zealand. —I am, etc., A.
