NATIONAL FEDERATION DISCUSSED The formation of a National Federation of Sport was discussed last night at the quarterly meeting of delegates to the Otago Council of Sport. The chairman (Mr C. W. Clark) reported that the Canterbury Council of Amateur Sport would not agree to the establishment of a federation unless the word “ amateur ’ was used in the title. A good deal of discussion took place on the subject. It was pointed out that the council covered all sports bodies and was concerned only with the welfare of sport. Canterbury was the only centre not willing to join the National Federation of Sport, in terms of the proposed constitution, and it was decided to forward a letter to Chrislbhurch explaining the situation. The Canterbury Council of Amateur Sport wrote suggesting that all councils of sport should formally object to the action of the Food Controller in the withdrawal of sugar and tea rations for sports clubs.—lt was decided to agree to the proposal. An application for affiliation by the Dunedin Amateur Skating Club was granted. The secretary reported that the Otago Cricket Association had been advised that the City Council bad considered the charges for the rental of sports grounds for this summer, and had decided that the present special war-time reduction of 25 per cent, would be granted again this sea Son. It had been decided to meet the demands of the army by granting grounds free of charge. No further reductions could be made.
