GOOD FAT LAMB SALE BEEF VALUES EASIER The entries at the weekly market at Burnside yesterday were practically the same in number as last week, with the exception of fat cattle, which were forward in larger numbers. Fat lambs were better by 2s to 3s a head, while lat sheep were firm to a shade better than last week's sale. In the lat pig section porkers commanded attention, but baconers eased to more reasonable values. Store cattle again met with a keen sale, and late prices were well maintained. , , Fat Cattle—The entry numbered 355, as compared with 280 last week. Owing to the over-supply, the market opened under easier conditions to the extent oi. 20s to 25s a head, and did not show any improvement throughout. The sale was a fluctuating one, and towards the finish there was a further easing. Prices generally could be quoted at 30s to 35s lower than last week s ruling rates. The quality generally consisted of medium descriptions, with a few pens of outstanding quality. Top price for the day was £23 7s 6d. Mr J. Telfer (Paretai) secured an average of £2O 7s 6d for a truck of bullocks, and Hastings Bros. (Stirling) had an average of £2O ss. Cows and heifers also showed a decline

of 25s a head. Quotations: —Prime heavy bullocks, to £23 7s 6d; prime, £lB 17s 6d to £2l 7s 6d; medium, £ls 7s 6d to £l6 12s 6d; light, £l3 2s 6d to £l4 7s 6d; prime heifers, £l2 2s 6d to £l3 7s 6d; medium, £9 17s 6d to £ll 12s 6d; light, £8 17s 6d to £9 17s 6d; extra prime cows, to £l3 -2s 6d; prime, £9 2s 6d to £lO 12s 6d; medium, £7 2s 6d to £8 2s 6d; light. £5 17s 6d to £6 7s 6d - Fat Sheep.—The number yarded was 1450, compared with 1350 last week. The yarding again consisted mostly of ewes, with a few pens of outstanding quality, there being a larger tail end than usual. Wethers were again in short supply and not sufficient to meet butchers' requirements. The market for all classes was firm to a shade better, this being particularly noticeable in light ewes. Quotations:—Prime shorn wethers, 38s 6d to 40s 6d; medium. 34s 6d to 365; light, 29s 6d to 31s; prime shorn ewes, 29s 6d to 32s 6d; medium, 26s 6d to 27s 9d; light, from 17s. Fat Lambs.—The entry totalled approximately 450. There was a limited number of prime quality forward, the yarding being mostly medium and light. Prices generally showed an improvement on last week of 2s to 3s a head. Freezing buyers were present, but were unable to operate at schedule. Quotations: Extra prime lambs, Sls’gd to 335: prime, 28s 6d to 30s; medium, 25s 6d to 275; light, from 235. Pigs.—There was an average yarding In both the porker and baconer sections. Porkers maintained late rates, and there was a firm sale throughout. Baconers did not maintain the recent high values, and prices were lower by 5s to 6s a head. Quotations: Best baconers, £5 10s to £5 16s; medium, £4 18s to £5 ss; light. £4 5s to £4 9s; best porkers, £4 9s to £4 14s; medium, £3 13s to £4; light, £3 5s to £3 9s. The entry of store pigs was small, and these sold well up to late rates, weaners realising from 35s to 37s 6d, and medium, 26s 6d to 28s 6d. Store Cattle.—lncluded in the store cattle entry were a few pens of well-bred station cattle. These met with the usual keen competition and sold well up to late prices. Three and four-year-old bullocks made up to £l3 ss, while 2 \ and 3-year-old made from £9 15s to £lO 15s. Dairy Cows.—The entry was somewhat similar to that of last week, and the quality again was of the ordinary class. Any cows of good milking quality met with good competition at prices equal to those of last week. Best second and third calvers made from £9 to £lO ss, and medium, £6 15s to £7 12s 6d.
