PEARL HARBOUR
EXCHANGE OF ANNIVERSARY MESSAGES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. The Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, recently sent the following cablegram to President Roosevelt:— “On this the anniversary of the treacherous attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbour, 1 wish to re-affirm to you and through you to the Government and people of the United States, the determination of this Dominion to pursue unflinchingly our common object of resisting aggression and rendering such acts of barbarism impossible for all time in the future. The British Commonwealth of Nations and the United States, with their Allies,, can now, we believe, see clearly in the distance the triumph of the cause for which we are fighting, and when the forces of evil have been routed we in New Zealand pledge ourselves to work with the United Nations towards the establishment of a better and happier world, based on the immutable principles of peace, order, and justice for all.” Mr Fraser has received from President Roosevelt the following reply:— “ I received your cordial message, and greatly appreciate your assurance of New Zealand's determination to pursue unflinchingly our common task of defeating the enemy. The comradeship of the American and British Commonwealth forces, fighting side by side in the South Pacific, in the south-wesU Pacific, and in Africa, is symbolic of our close association, and of our common determination to ensure that such criminal attacks may never again bs launched against us.”
