PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH At the Presbyterian children's Christmas service and prize-giving, children from beginners’ and primary departments contributed a number of songs, the solo being taken by T. Montecino. and the lesson by Gwenyth Cassie. The children's choir sang the Christmas carols, the solo portion being rendered by Ellen McKinlay The Rev. H. O. Bowman addressed the’ children, and the prizes were presented by Mrs H. O. Bowman, the Mayoress, and Mr J. Watson. ANGLICAN CHURCH The annual children’s tea and prize-giving of Holy Trinity Church was largely attended. The vicar, the Rev. J. Simpson, thanked the Sunday school teachers and all who had assisted in the work of the school during the year The Kewley Memorial prizes for catechism were presented as follows; Seniors, Alex. Coleman: intermediates. B. Verrall and Karl Johansen 1, O. Harris and J. Ellison 2, B. Jack and D. Jarvis 3. PATRIOTIC EFFORT The Mayor, Mr H. S. Watson, has thanked the school children for the assistance given in sending chewing gum to soldiers. Letters from men on active service expressing appreciation of the gifts have been received. SWIMMING At the opening carnival of the Port Chalmers Swimming Association, to be held at Innes Bay on Saturday, December 19, at 2 p.m., demonstrations will be given by visiting swimmers from Dunedin. This attraction, which is a major one with a full programme, will be opened by the centre members from Dunedin. Given a fine day, the attractive programme should have the full support of the public—Advt.
