HEAVY-WEIGHT PIGS
EXPORT PRICE SCHEDULE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 11. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr J. G. Barclay, stated to-day that as a result of a recent conference with representatives of the National Pig Industry Council he had decided to extend the date of acceptance of heavy-weight pigs from January 1, 1943, until January 9. This arrangement means that pigs up to 1801 b weight delivered at the works up to and including January 9 are to be accepted at the current export price schedule. As from January 10 next the maximum weight for export pigs will be reduced to 1601 b, and as was the practice last season the operators will be requested to allow a tolerance of 51b and pay the export schedule price (up to a maximum of 1601 b) for pigs which actually weigh up to 1651 b, and which can be converted into Wiltshire sides of suitable weights. The reason for this alteration is to allow pig producers sufficient time to dispose of their heavy-weight pigs and adjust their programme of production to the amended limits without undue hardship.
