GAELIC SOCIETY

The Dunedin Gaelic Society held its monthly meeting in the Returned Services’ Association Social HalL Chief Colin Macdonald was in the chair, assisted by Chieftains W. H. McLeod and Thomas Stewart. The chief extended a welcome to Miss McNeill, of Masterton, and Mr Mclntyre, and referred to the loss suffered by Mr and Mrs McKenzie in the death of their son, James Donald, on active service. Piper Airdrie Stuart played a lament while the audience stood in silence.

The choir opened the musical programme with two Gaelic songs, “Air a' Ghille tha mo Run ” and “ Dhealaich mise' nochd ri m’leannan.” Other contributors were: Songs, “Farewell to Fiunary ” and " The Auld Hoose,” Mrs S. M. Tohill; fling, Miss Helen Wheeler; Gaelic songs, “ Cruachan Beann ” and “ Fuadach nan Galdheal,” Miss A. Kennedy; songs, “ The Blue Bells of Scotland ” and “ Cornin’ Thro’ the Rye,” Miss Betty Payne: hornpipe. Miss June Tregilgus; recitations, “ Sandy Broon ” and “ The Waly Dug.” Mrs Oliver; Gaelic choir, “ ’S i mo Leannan an te ur ” and "An ciuinn thu ni mo nighean donn songs, “An 'Eriskay Love Lilt ” and “ I’ll Walk Beside You ” Miss Doris Perks; Irish iig, Miss Doreen Read; Gaelic songs, “ Crodh Chaile’.n ” and “ Thug mi mo Lamh do’n Edeanach,” Miss B. Mcßae; songs, “Bird of Blue” and “ Hark, Hark, the Lark,” Miss Doris Littler; songs, “ The Leaf on the Tree ” and a humorous story, Mr Murdo Johnson; pipe selection. Piper Neil Munro. Miss George played the accompaniments, and Pipers Airdrie Stuart and Neil Munro provided the music for the national dancing.
