OBITUARY

mr j. h. McDougall

The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Joseph Henry McDougall. who was well known in business and sporting circles in Dunedin. Mr McDougall. Who had previously complained of feeling unwell, was. driving to bis home in Maheno street, Roslyn, shortly after 9.30 on Friday night, when his car collided with a telegraph post at the intersection of Highgate and Taiei’ l road. He received injuries which necessitated his removal, to hospital, where he died early the following morning. An inquest was opened on Saturday by Mr TI. W. Bundle, S.M., and was adjourned after evidence of identification had been taken. Mr McDougall, who was 52 years of age, was one of the principals of the New Zealand Typewriter Supplies Company. He was bom in Dunedin and was educated at the Kaikorai School and the Otago Boys’ High School. He saw long service m the Great War, leaving with the first reinforcements as a gunner and returning as a lieutenant. As a young man Mr McDougall was a track runner, and was also a member of the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club’s senior team. Later he became a prominent member of the Otago Golf Club, which he represented on a number of occasions. and in recent yAars had been a member of the committee of the club. He was also a member of the Otago Boxing Association, the Returned Services’ Association, and the Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen’s Association. He is survived by his wife anddwo daughters.
