GIFTS FROM HOME AN AViUiANCHE OF PARCELS (Rec. Nov. 7. Chris tma^"T^celsr^forr*~American troops in Australia. pouring into the special army post office at New York from all over the United States in an unprecedented avalanche. Some over-optimistic souls sent in packages in very flimsy wrapping which were unequal to a journey of one mile, let alone ’13,000 miles. . ■ ■. The chief of the Army Postal Service, General Adams, told the Australian Associated Press that “ it could not be given even the approximate volume of the mail because it was a dark military secret,” but he felt sure it would reach Australia on time. Ho added that the packages which were rewrapped indicated that practical gifts predominated. Some officials said that New York’s brightest and loudest ties may soon astonish Australians.
