SERVICE APPEALS

SITTING OF No. 2 BOARD

The No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board —Messrs J. R. Bartholomew (chairman), J. Price, and H. Hodgson—continued its sittings in Dunedin yesterday. The majority of the appeals heard were lodged by the Director of National Service in cooperation with various Government departments. Reserved decisions were delivered as follows:—J. Skinner, soldier, appeal against overseas service only, dismissed; F. H. Graham, carrier, and W. J. Carley, mail contractor, both dismissed, but toe reservists not to be called up before January 31, 1943; New Zealand Fur Company, Ltd., for R. Michael, fur cutter, dismissed, but the reservist is not to be called up before December 31, 1942, and for J. Kenton, fur cutter, adjourned sine die. Adjournments Sine Die. The following appeals lodged by the Director of National Service and the Mental Hospitals Department on behalf of department employees were adjourned sine die:—C. H. Dadson, J. G. Clark, G. E. Dadson, F. Galbraith, S. A. Chisholrn, F. C. Brenssell, E. G. Coker, P. K. Cole, attendants; G. J. Allen, engineer; G. Ireland, motor driver; C. M. Sloane, chief clerk. Sine die adjournments were granted in the following appeals by the Director of National Service and the Post and Telegraph Department for the following departmental employees:—C. T. Gilchrist, telephone mechanic; L. W. Budd, mechanician; A. M. Kennedy and K. G. Mason, linesmen; J. T. Smith, line foreman; J. H. Dark, telegraphist; G. D. Munro, clerk. McVeigh, shipping clerk; Reckitt and Colman, Ltd for S. B. Harris manacer- D.1.C., Ltd., for H. C. Harford, manager, and E. G. H. Ruffell, secretary; Modern Furniture, Ltd., for L. J. Hogg, machinist and cabinetmaker; Hope and Kinaston, Ltd., for E. L. Hope director and manager, and for H. G. Smart, casket maker. Appeals Dismissed The following appeals were dismissed, but the reservists are not to be called up before the dates mentioned:—Lands and Survey Department, for A. J. Geary, shearer, January 31, 1943; Director of National Service, for H. A. Brugh, health inspector. A. L. Twhigg, solicitor, and S H. Saxby, agricultural instructor, December 31, 1942. The appeal of R. A. Dawson for I. B. Dawson, apprentice painter and paperhanger, was dismissed on condition that the reservist should serve only in New Zealand between May and August in each year. The following appeals were dismissed: — Director of National Service, for R. W. O'Leary, clerk, and for release from camp of E. B. Coupe, clerk. Other Decisions

In an appeal by Mrs A. B. Hetherlngton against overseas service by hev son, G. R. Hetherington, who is now In camp, decision was reserved. Appeals by the Public Works Department for D. H. Allcbck and A. McKerrow, surfacemen, F. M. Kennedy, truck driver, and R. Morrison, labourer, were adjourned until November 30, 1942, by which time the department is to show that the men concerned cannot be replaced.
