Fat Sheep.—The entry of fat sheep was about tlie same numerically as last week’s, the number being 1950. Wethers were again in good supply, some attractive lines being offered. Prices for all classes at the commencement of the sale were probably a shade easier than last week’s, but as the sale progressed there was a general Improvement, and towards the finish prices were better, particularly for ewes, by 2s a head. Medium class ewes were generally easier by Is 6d to 2s a head. The top price secured for wethers was 46s 6d, and for prime maiden ewes 365. Fat Pigs.—The entry in this section was larger than that of a week ago, and the extreme prices realised there were barely maintained, although there was a ready sale under keen competition throughout. The best, price secured for baconers was £C 4s. and for porkers £4 9s. Quotations: Best baconers, £5 14s to £6 4s; medium. £4 10s to £5 8s: light, £4 3s to £4 6s; best porkers, £3 18s to £4 9s; medium, £3 7s to £3 13s; light, £2 18s to £3 3s. Store Cattle.—Tliere was a poor entry in the store cattle section. Only two pens of 21-year-old steers and a limited number of young sorts and cows were forward. Steers realised from £8 7s 6d to £9 7s 6d, and cows from £4 2s 6d to £5 3s. The entry in the vealer section was a light one and prices for these were maintained at a high level. Runners made up 1o £8 4s. and suckers £4 19s to £6 10s. Lighter sorts sold from £3 12s 6d to £4 2s. Dairy Cows.—The entry was again a small one, comprised mostly of medium and poor quality. These did not attract attention, and bidding was slack. The best price secured was £8 17s 6d, while medium and inferior sorts mot with little inquiry.

ADDINGTON MARKET IMPROVEMENT IN VALUES (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 9. At the Addington market to-day values for fat stock generally were on a higher scale, and in respect to fat cattle the rise was due mainly to the smaller penning. Outside competition helped the market for fat pigs, and there was a keen inquiry for fat ewes. Store Sheep.—-The yarding was much smaller than usual, only 1588 being yarded. Bidding was very slack throughout, and prices showed a V rther drop on last week’s rates. Wether hoggets sold up to 24s and ewes up to 38s, but the majority were passed at from 23s to 25s 6d. Older 'ewes brought up to 30s 5d and wethers up to 28s Id, Some good-quality ewes and lambs realised 14s 9d (all counted), and others from 10s 2d to 13s 6d, Fat Sheep.—The entry totalled about 3500, the same as last week. Prices for both wethers and ewes were again high, but while wethers showed only a slight hardening all classes of ewes advanced up to 3s a head. The top price for wethers was 52s 7d, and one truck load ranged from 46s 7d to 49s lOd. A line of 108 open-woolled ewes ranged from 35s 7d to 39s 4d, and 57 close-woolled sheep made from 36s 7d to 335. Fat hoggets made up to 42s 7d. Fat Cattle—The market reached the highest level of the year, mainly owing to the limited entry, which totalled 453 head, as against over 500 at recent sales. Quality beef was not so strongly represented, and this also accounted for the keen demand for that class. The market opened with a slow inquiry, but quickly firmed for best quality, and values more than recovered last week’s drop of 15s a head. Generally, the increase ranged from 20s to 25s a head for the best and from 15s to 20s for other classes. Best beef made from 46s 6d to 49s 6d per 1001 b, tops to 525; good average, from 43s 6d to 465; medium, 41s to 435; and ordinary, down to 36s 6d. One truck lot of eight steers averaged £24 2s 6d, the top price being £25 2s 6d, and a line of 27 heifers averaged £ls 11s 9d, top price £l9 17s 6d. Fat Pigs.—The demand lor porkers w-as very keen, and the drop of 20s a head last week was recovered. Outside competition was mainly responsible for the sharp rise. Light porkers made to £3 9s 6d. medium to £4 5s 6d, and heavy to £4 19s 6d; average price per lb, lOd to HJd. Choppers were in medium supply. and values showed no change. Baconers were in small supply, and values showed a rise of 5s to 10s a head. Lightweights made up to £4 19s 6d, medium to £5 12s 6d, and heavy to £5 19s 6d; average price per lb, 8d to 9fd.
