AIR SERVICE

RESUMPTION ON JULY 6 CHANGES IN TIME TABLE Official advice has now been received in Dunedin confirming the statement by the Minister of Transport, Mr R. Semple, that the airliner service between Dunedin and Auckland will be resumed early in July. The Mayor, Mr A. H. Allen, has received a letter from the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, in which the Minister acknowledges Mr Allen's letter to him concerning the service, and states that he had interested himself in the matter and had been in consultation with the management of Union Airways, Ltd. A new time table proposed by the company had been recommended by the Inter-depart-mental Committee and the service would be put into operation on July 6.

The schedule for the service is similar to that which has been operated for the past two years, the only changes being that on both the northern and southern flights a stay will be made at Wellington and the incoming plane will arrive at the local airport at about 4 p.m., instead of about 2.30 p.m. as formerly.! From Monday to Friday inclusive a plane will leave Auckland each day at 8 a.m.. and will arrive at Wellington at 10.30 a.m., leaving that city at 1 p.m.. and arriving at Dunedin at 4 p.m. On the north-bound trips an airliner will leave Dunedin at 8.30 a.m. each day, Tuesday to Saturday inclusive, arriving at* Christchurch at 10 a.m. and at Wellington at 11.30 a.m. The machines will leave Wellington at 1.15 p.m., arriving at Auckland at 3.45 p.m. The stops at New Plymouth have been eliminated.

The Mayor yesterday expressed his appreciation of the assistance given by Mr Jones. He also expressed satisfaction that Dunedin's claims to the service had been recognised. '
