SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS

TIME ARRIVED TO LODGE APPEALS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 17. The question of appealing for ballotted teachers because of the acute shortage was discussed by the Auckland Education Board to-day. Mr S. B. Sims (Hamilton) said that in two recent Gazettes there were vacancies for 48 teachers that attracted no applications. He gave notice to move at the next meeting to rescind the board's previous resolution to appeal only for head teachers of schools of grade IV and higher and teachers of mathematics and science in the secondary departments of district high schools, and so to resolve that in future the board appeal for all tcschsrs The secretary of the board (Mr Nixon) said later that over 500 teachers from the Auckland province were now in the fighting services.
