NOTES FROM INVERCARGILL
(Special) INVERCARGILL, June 16 The weather was fine and sunny for training operations in Invereargill this morning, but the going was on the sticky side, though improving. "Gnohill was again seen to advantage when he and Doubleack beat Marquee over a mile in lmin 52sec. the first four in 54 4-ssec and the last four in 57 3-ssec Marquee set a solid pace in the early stages of the gallop, but both Gnohill and Doubleack drew clear over the last couple of furlongs and came home together with a couple of lengths to spare from Marquee at the finishing post, Gnohill again finishing on well.
Fleet Street and Waitoru carried over 9.0 when they reeled off five furlongs in lmin 6 l-ssec, the first four in 54sec Fleet Street was doing it the better at the finish, and his latest track work suggests that he has taken a new 'lease of life. If C. T. Wilson is not available, Waitoru will be ridden by J. W. Jennings in the Winter Handicap. No rider has been engaged for Fleet Street so far. The Otago Hurdles candidates Heidelberg and Bow Street were restricted to three-quarter pace work over a mile and a-quarter and both hit out freely. Anglo-French, Noko, and True Range got through useful tasks. Chandelier was schooled over four flights of« hurdles and jumped the first couple of hurdles well. The schooling he has done lately appears to have done him good, but he is to be given a spell from racing. Anglo-French, Noko, True Range and Marquee will be taken through to Wingatui to-morrow, and the other Dunedin candidates will leave on Friday.
