RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. Rue, who has 'been resting for two months, will not be raced again, and she has been sent home to Mr G. Murray Aynsley's stud. She is a four-year-old mare by Myosotis from Reproachful, the dam of Chide, and she showed track form which seemed to mark her off for big events, as she could stay as well as sprint. Her racing career, however, was a series of disappointments, as though she was placed a few times, she failed to win a race. A. Messervy will ride Maggiore, Northern King, and Miss Clorane at the Dunedin meeting, where I. Walther will be on Valens. and probably A. Stove on King's Toast. P. Spratt, who has been absent in the North Island for a few weeks, will not return till after the Manawatu meeting. W. Sheehan broke a collarbone when he was dragged by a young horse a few days ago. This left J. H. Prosser without an assistant, and M. B. Edwards has taken charge of Eulogist for a few weeks. There was not much fast galloping this morning. St. Cloud beat Maggiore over a mile in lmin 45 2-ssec, Northern King and Sally Lunn did five-furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec, while Arabian Night took lmin 19sec for six.
Valantua shaped well over four hurdles, his mate being Locrian, who jumped the first two smartly. King's Toast jumped high in a school over four hurdles. Gillie, after going over the pony hurdles joined in for the last two, and went very well. Arctic Dawn (I. Walther) was given some education over hurdles. He was not keen on his task, though he jumped well when taken slowly.
