OTAGO WOMEN'S CLUB
The poetry of Walter de la Mare was taken by trie poetry circle of the Otago Women's Club for this month's study. An excellent introduction was given by Miss Crow in a paper on the poet's life and work, and members present read extracts from his writings. Many old favourites were given, including " Nod," " Silver," and " The Listeners," as well as several of his lesser known poems, including " Characters from Shakespeare " and " Serephena." His children's poems were represented by selections from " Peacock Pie " and his newly published collection " Bells and Glass." The extracts demonstrated his supreme gift in the art of composing the musical and unforgettable line.
Columba old girls are reminded of the knitting meeting to be held this afternoon at Columba College in the principal's drawing room. At the monthly meeting of the Townswomen's Guild, to be held on Tuesday evening, Mrs Peter Anderson will give an address on " The Slave Girls of China," and the Entertainment Committee has arranged for a short play to be presented.
