SOUTHLAND HORSES FOR OAMARU

(Special) INVERCARGILL. May 12. Heavy fog made it impossible to time work at Invercargill this morning, when horses with engagements at Oamaru on Saturday were given their final work-out prior to leaving for the north to-morrow. Invercargill horses booked to go north by the first express to-morrow are; Spanish Lad, Marquee, and Irish Coin (F. W. Ellis), Royal Chorus and Gnohill (J. A. Rowland), and Anglo-French (W. E. Hazlett), and all are in good order for their engagements. The novice Irish Coin is owned in Otago and will probably be left in the north for a spell. W. E. Hazlett stated this morning that he had decided against sending Noko and Anglo-French to the Waikato and Auckland meetings, and as a result of this change of plans Anglo-French will fulfil his steeplechase engagement at Oamaru. Anglo-French was schooled over a round of the steeplechase fences this morning, and he looks a much-improved horse since he won at the recent meeting here. The Heddon Bush trainer F. J. Boyle suffered a broken leg when he slipped on the footpath at Ashburton last Friday, and he has been admitted to the Southland Hospital. Boyle left Merry Simon and Surcoat with N. J. Dwyer at Oamaru.
