SCOTTISH SOCIETY

The monthly social and dance of the Scottish Society of Dunedin was held on Saturday, when a large number of members and friends were present. The chairman 01 the committee, Mr George Burnett, occupied the chair, and extended a welcome to members and friends. Mr W. Brown, convener of the dramatic section, moved a vote of thanks to the performers who had assisted in making the evening such a success, and referred to the intention of the section to resume the production of playettes, and asked for the co-operation of the members who were interested in this work. Items were given as follows: —Song. Miss Jessie Leishman; song and recitation. Miss Jean Grant; sone. Mr J. Grant: item on the whistle. Mr Peter Ramage; novelty item on the sdooiis. Mr W. McKerrow; .sword dance. Miss Norma Nicolls Irish jie. Miss Mavis Biessel. The piper was Master Airdrie Stewart. Dancing was enjoyed for the remainder of the evening, the M.C. being Mr J. T. Ramsay. Giving one reason why the defence of New Zealand was an absolute obsession with him and that any man or woman who did not contribute his utmost to the war effort was his bitterest enemy, a delegate from the Bay of Plenty to the "Awake, New Zealand." Campaign conference in Hamilton last week said lie had 13 children, 10 of whom were girls.
