Mrs E. E. Booth, of Oamaru, is the guest of Mrs J. Wilson, of Grant street. Mrs R. S. Black has returned from a short visit to Timaru.

Miss E. B. Edwards, of Invercargill is visiting her sister, Lady Hunt.

Mrs E. T. Mollar has returned from a holiday in Wellington and Hastings. The Townswomen's Guild is to be in charge of the Dug-out in the Octagon on Friday, when articles suitable for Mothers' Day will be on sale".

Mrs V. Oliphant, of St. Clair, and her sister, Mrs Norman Jeffreys, of Christchurch, have returned from a holiday in Queenstown.

Mrs G. Abercrombie, who has been paying a visit to her daughter, Mrs R. Allen, of Roslyn, has returned to Timaru.

Mrs F. M. Henderson, of Greenvale, and Mrs Keith Park, of Rotorua, are guests of Mr and Mrs H. S. Reid, of Mornington. The speaker at the Travel Club tomorrow will be Mr A. J. S. Pullan, who will describe his experiences in Thailand and the Netherlands East Indies. Mrs A. Clark and Mrs J. Y. Love will be the hostesses.

It is announced from Johannesburg that the marriage has taken place at Johannesburg of Flight Lieutenant David Aird Ross, of the Royal Air Force, son of Dr and Mrs K. Ross, of Dunedin, and Elaine, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. A. Lawrie, of Johannesburg, and niece of Mr Bruce Mitchell, the well-known international cricketer. . At the monthly social afternoon in the Theosophical Hall last Saturday an enjoyable half-hour of music was supplied >by Miss Joy Irwin (violin) and Miss Duncan (songs), with Miss Betty Johnston and Mrs E. Macdonald at the piano. Miss C. Pollard gave a short address on "Theosophy: The Solution to World Problems." Afternoon tea and an informal chat concluded the meeting.

The ladies of the Dunedin Bowling Club held a trump whist evening on Thursday at the home of Mrs Heenan, secretary of the club. The evening was in honour of Mrs Gregory, winner of the Champion of Champions competition, the Journey's End Cup of the Dunedin. Club, and other competitions held in the club. The supper table was decorated with red dahlias and a red "V" for victory. Mrs Haub, president of the club, congratulating Mrs Gregory on her remarkable record for the season, presented hsr, on behalf of the club, with a crystal candlestick and a bouquet of cream and gold chrysanthemums tied with the club colours, blue and gold. During the evening prizes were won by Mrs Williams and Miss Gillies.

WEDDING

A quiet wedding was solemnised in All Saints' Church, Dunedin, on Saturday morning, the bridegroom being Charles Frederick, only son of Mrs and the late J. J. Wrigley, of Tauranga, and the bride Nora Mabel, only daughter of Mr and Mrs James Innes, of Gisborne. The officiating clergyman was Archdeacon Whitehead, assisted by the Rev. Mr Waldron. Communion was taken by the bride and bridegroom after the ceremony. Miss Sadie Foote was bridesmaid, and Mr William Johnson was the best man. The wedding breakfast was held in the Crawford Lounge when 37 guests were entertained. There was a university atmosphere about the occasion, the bride being a graduate, and the bridegroom a lecturer at Otago University. As the bridegroom will be in camp for the duration, the bride, who is on the staff of the Otago Girls' High School, will continue her work.

(CROQUET PLAYERS

The Tainui Croquet Club held its closing day on Saturday, when the members were the guests of the president (Mrs McFaull). Mrs Sagar, vicepresident, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs McFaull with a shoulder spray in the club colours. During the afternoon trump whist was played,, the prizes going to Mesdames McNatty and Davys. The following ladies were presented with trophies won during the season: Mrs Thomas, winner of Champion and Handicap Singles, also holder of A Grade button; Mrs King, runnerup in Champion and Handicap Singles; Mrs Gillanders, winner of B Grade championship, holder of B Grade button, and runner-up Handicap Singles; Mrs Hanger, second in Champion Singles; Miss Black, first Handicap Singles; Mrs Simpson and Miss Black, first, and Mesdames Davys and Gillanders second in the Mixed Doubles.

TOWN HALL DANCE

It was "Dad and Dave" night at the weekly Town Hall dance on Saturday night, when all the personalities of Snake Gully were represented in character. The stage was arranged as Snake Gully farm, complete with live pigs and fowls. The costumes worn and the antics of the wearers created much amusement with the large crowds of dancers and spectators in both the main hall and the Concert Chamber. "Dad and Dave" tunes were featured, and a novel " Snake Gully" supper was provided. Further entrants in the vocal contest were heard on Saturday night. They were Misses J. Anderson, Ledingham, M. Davidson, and R. Cleaver, and Mr Don Brown, and their numbers were greatly enjoyed. The winners of the previous heat were Miss E. Monticino, Miss E. Morrison, and Mr Ford (Winton). This week's dance will be held on Friday night.
