WATEA CROQUET CLUB

The closing day of the Watea Croquet Club held on Thursday last in beautiful weather was largely attended by members and honorary members, and the final games of the season were enjoyed by all. The president, Mrs McClatchy, referred to the season's activities, and presented the club prizes to the following:—A Grade champion. Mrs Knox; runner-up, Mrs O'Donnell; A Grade Handicap Singles, Mrs Knox; runner-up, Mrs Gibson; Handicap Doubles, Mrs Gibson and Mrs Little; B Grade champion, Miss Henderson; runner-up, Mrs Shand; Handicap Singles, Mrs Steel; runner-up. Miss Henderson; Handicap Doubles, Mrs McKechnie and Mrs Shand; C Grade Champion, Mrs Thomson; runner-up, Mrs Haig. Afternoon tea was then served in the pavilion.

RED CROSS NEWS

ar-—*>*.__ The annual meeting of bSL 2j the Waipiata Red Cross TP I Guild was held on Thursday night. A very satis- * factory report of the year's work was given, a good supply of knitted garments and sewing having been sent away during the year. The president extended thanks to all those who had helped so generously. Mrs T. E. O'Connor was reelected president, and Miss O. H. Roberts was re-elected secretary and treasurer. All members form the committee.

WOMEN AND THE WAR

Although it is difficult to make comparisons, it is probable that women are taking a larger part in the war effort in the United Kingdom than in any other country, with the exception _of Russia, and it is not only a question of the numbers employed, but also of the responsibility and skilled nature of the work done. SUPPLY DEPOTS

Mrs E. T. Seymour and. Miss Kathleen Mac Gibbon met the supervisors and telegranh attendants of the supply depots of the E.P.S. last night in the R.S.A. Hall to discuss ways of increasing the efficiency of the organisation through experience gained in the recent air raid trial.
