UTILITY POULTRY CLUB
The pennins and judging of breeding birds, an event which had been keenly anticipated by members, took place *at the recent meeting of the Dunedin Utility Poultry Club. .Mr W. L. Jourdain (Government instructor) judged the birds, at the same time providing an opportunity for members to inspect the exhibits and give their own decisions. Helpful advice was given by Mr Jourdain. The result of the amateur judging was as follows:—Mrs Pearl Robertson 1, Mr G. Hall 2. Specimens of birds which were new to Dunedin were exhibited by Mr P. Pollard. During his talk on the birds penned, Mr Jourdain said he favoured early cockerels. In his opinion July was not too early to put down the.first incubator lot, which, he said, would necessarily be a small one as the difficulty would be to have eggs available at this time. If the birds went into a moult at the end of March they should lay by the end of June. The .first eggs of the season produced the best stock. Mr Bartley (president) thanked Mr Jourdain for his interesting lecture. Mr G. Hall-will talk on "Wheat" at the next meeting.
