OUTRAM

Patriotic Committee.—Mr D. Ashley presided over 11 members of the Outram Patriotic Committee at a meeting on Friday last. The chairman welccmed Mrs Dodds and Miss Fraser, two new members of the committee, and extended to Miss K. Anderson the best wishes of the committee on her departure to take up voluntary aid duties at Hanmer, Mrs Brookes reported on the work done by the Knitting Circle, which had completed approximately 390 articles in 1941. Additional members of the Patriotic Committee are required, and a hearty invitation is extended to anyone wishing to assist. . ■, Social Function.—On the occasion of a social which was tendered to Voluntary Aid Miss Margaret Grant, Leading Aircraftman L. A. Townrow and Privates H. McDonald and J. Meade, the hall at Outram was filled to capacity, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Mr D. Ashley occupied the chair, and Dr Wylie made presentations to the guests. Presentations were also made to Miss Grant on behalf of the Ambulance and Nursing Division, Girl Guides, Drama Club and Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and the various speakers extended to her every good wish and thanked her for the splendid work she had done during her connection with the respective bodies. Aircraftman Townrow received a presentation, also, from the Lawn Tennis Club. Mr G. T. Bathgate spoke on behalf of the local returned soldiers. Items were presented by Mrs A. Free and Mr H. Walker, and the dance music was supplied by Mr W. Irving.
