DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY

REPORT ON CHAPLAINCY A meeting of the Presbytery of Dunedin was held last night, The Rev. A. C. W. Standage was elected moderator for the ensuing term, and took the chair. • The presbytery placed on record thanks to the retiring moderator, the Rev. Professor J. A. Allan. The Very Rev. G. H. McNeur was associated with the presbytery. The presbytery expressed sympathy with the relatives of chaplains posted missing or prisoners of war—Revs. K. A. Mitchell, R. G. McDowall, and Keith J. Watson.

Grants for home mission stations within the bounds were approved as recommended by the presbytery. * The superintendent of missions advised that Mr Montague Jackson had been appointed to the Gladstone Home Mission Station. A commission of presbytery was appointed to arrange for and conduct a service of recognition. The Rev. J. Chisholm presented the report of the Chaplains' Committee. It stated that the Revs. C. M. Sullivan and H. O. Bowman were in territorial camps as chaplains for the duration of the war. The Rev. R. S. Watson was at Ashburton with the Medical Corps. The Rev. J. A Linton had been appointed a chaplain on the active list in Area XI. The Rev. C. M Sullivan was granted three months' leave of absence as from February 1 on account of chaplaincy duties. The Rev. I. G. Borrie was appointed interim moderator of Caversham. The Rev. S. D. Baird was appointed to relieve Mr Sullivan as moderator of South Dunedin. Mr Bowman was granted three months' leave of absence as from February 1 on account of chaplaincy duties. The Rev. A. M. EUiffe was appointed interim moderator of Port Chalmers. The Rev. R. T. Dodds, chaplain to the forces, was granted extended leave of absence from the South Dunedin charge for a further 12 months.

It was agreed that the effect of the new lighting restrictions and related matters should be considered by the Finance and Property Committee. The Rev. D. N. McKenzie presented the report of the visitation of the North Taieri charge, which was" received and a suitable deliverance adopted. Mr McKenzie gave notice of motion that in future the presbytery should meet in the afternoon instead of the evening.
