ENTERTAINMENT AT CAMP

A pleasant time was spent with members of the National Reserve at the Spit on Monday night, when a community sing, conducted by Mr J. F. Himburg, with Mr A. Pettitt at the piano, was held. Members enjoyed the programme of popular songs, and the singing was excellent. Performers who contributed to the entertainment were Mrs Noni Masters and Mrs John McFarlane (solos and duets), Miss Doris Darracott and Mr W. Stevenson (songs), Mr Frank White (character songs) and Mr N. Larkins (violin). During the function a birthday gift was presented to Sergeant Roberts by Corporal Stevens. Lieutenant Vercoe, on behalf of the officers . and men, thanked Mr Himburg and his party for providing such an enjoyable programme, and expressed the hope that another function could be arranged.

DANCE FUNCTION

The popularity of the social gatherings promoted by National Reservists at a nearby station was further demonstrated on Saturday night, when an attendance of upwards of 50 couples enjoyed several hours' dancing to music supplied by Private V. Tobin and Signaller H. Lethaby. Corporal C. E. Brown acted as M.C., and songs, which were much appreciated, were contributed by Private Jones. The latter, on behalf of the reserve personnel, expressed thanks to the residents for their manifestations of goodwill and helpfulness, and at the same time handed to the local School Committee the net proceeds of the dance. Mr Sheppard suitably acknowledged the kindly gesture.
