ADDINGTON MARKET VALUES MAINTAINED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 28. There were large entries in practically all sections at ;o-day's Addington market, and generally prices were well maintained. Store Lambs.—There was again an exceptionally heavy entry of 11.709 head, but the quality was scarcely up to last: week's exceptionally high standard, and the market differed very little in values. The top price was for sound-mouthed three-quarter-breds at 24s 9d. Fully 8000 ranged from 17s 9d to 21s 3d, with medium to forward rape lambs strong in wool, 16s to 18s, and equally good fine wools up to 16s 6d. Close woolled were easier. Fat Lambs.—The entry was slightly less than last week, consisting of about 3200 head. The rise of id in the schedule for first grade was not fully reflected in the prices paid. The market, however, was inclined to be firmer and the bulk of the jntry went to exporters within the schedule.

Fat Sheep.—The entry whs 400 ° head, slightly larger than last week. The market was irregular but on an average was* little changed from that of a week agoi Best wethers made from 27s 6d to 32s 6d, good 25s to 275, ordinary and light 21s 6d to 24s 6d, best ewes to 225, prime medium .'lss to 17s 6d, ordinary 12s 6d to 14s 6d, and export 10s to lis 6d. Fat Cattle.—A varding of 589 head, but the quality was only fair. Best quality steers made from £l6 5s to £lB 12s 6d, medium to good, £l4 5s to £l6 ss, ordinary and light £lO 15s to £l3, best heifers £lO 10s to £l4 12s 6d, medium £8 to £9 15s, light to £7 ss, best cows £lO to £l2 12s 6d, medium £6 10s to £8 10s, and light to £6. Best beef realised from 40s to 42s 6d per 1001 b, extra to 43s 6d, and medium to good 36s to 395. Fat Pigs.—The entry was of similar size to last week's, and the values at the beginning were on a par with the last sale, but eased towards the finish by 2s to 3s a head. The average price for porkers was 6Jd to 7£d per lb and for baconers 6d to 7Jd.

Fat Lambs.— A smaller yarding, numbering 1200, was penned. Although there was a number of pens of good quality, these did not compare with the splendid yarding last week. The sale differed little from last week's, and with good competition throughout, a firm sale resulted, although last week's parity was barely maintained. Best quality made up to 28s 3d. Quotations: Extra prime lambs, to 28s 3d; prime, 24s 9d to 26s 9d; medium, 23s to 24s 3d; light.-from 20s 6d. Store Cattle.—There was a small entry in this class compared with the moderate entry last week. Buyers were limited. The pennings were made up mostly of one and a-half and two-year-old steers, these realising from £5 15s to £8 12s. An odd pen of fresh cows met with fair demand, and sold from £2 10s to £2 17s 6d, while poor grades sold from 25s to 355. '

Vealers. —Again the entry was fair, and prices for all were firm. A pen of good quality suckers demanded attention, and made from £3 13s to £4 17s 6d, while medium sorts could be quoted from £2 7s to £2 14s.

Fat Pigs.—Baconers, of which there was a number of excellent sorts, were forward in medium numbers. The sale was slack for the first race, but gradually improved, and late rates were fully maintained. The entry of porkers was rather too large, and although it sold freely at the beginning of the sale, it met slack competition towards the finish. Quotations: Best baconers, to £4 13s; medium, £2 17s 6d to £3 lis; best porkers, to £3 ss; medium, £2 7s to £2 12s 6d.

Store Pigs.—There was a small entry in this section, which met with an improved sale. Best suckers realised up to 14s, medium 10s to 12s, and small from ss; best stores 275, slips from 18s to 225. Dairy Cows.—There was a small entry in this section, and quality was lacking. Anything showing quality and guaranteed sound met with fair competition, and realised up to £9.

WOOL-SELLING SEASON WANGANUI APPRAISAL (P.A.) WANGANUI, Jan. 28. When quality and style are taken into account, the prices were satisfactory and equivalent to recent realisation's, stated the official report issued by the Wanganui Woolbrokers' Association on the third appraisal of the current season. The number of bales offered was 25,166. Though well grown, the wool was not in as good condition as usual owing to discolouration, the result of the abnormal season. The bulk of bellies and pieces were stained and this condition was reflected in the prices as compared with last year. A fair quantity of lambs' wool was offered, and prices were satisfactory. As in the earlier appraisals, a marked preference was shown for well-skirted and classed clips.
