TWO BRIGADIERS

PRISONERS OF WAR GREETINGS BY RADIO (Special) AUCKLAND, Dec. SO. Messages from two New Zealand senior officers, Brigadier J. Hargest, D. 5.0., M.C., and Brigadier R. Miles. D. 5.0., M.C., as prisoners of war, were broadcast last night among a number of others by Vatican City radio, and were heard by many listeners in Auckland. The Middle East Command on December 3 reported that both officers were believed to have been taken prisoner, but the report was not subsequently confirmed, and they were posted as missing. Brigadier Miles, however, was reported on December 7 as having been wounded, but still missing. Brigadier Hargest’s message was: “A merry Christmas to all at, home, and to friends.” Brigadier Miles stated that he was well and wished Christmas greetings to be conveyed to his family and to friends in New Zealand. No indication was given of the locality or country where either officer is held prisoner.
