"JAPANESE CAN COME" CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR'S PLEA
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 16. " I do not care whether the Japanese come to New Zealand or not; shey have as much right as we to the country,'! said John Laird, a student, when; apf pealing against military service before the Armed Forces Appeal Board. ~The appellant based his appeal on conscientious grounds, and/said-he was a member of the Presbyterians .Church. Later, in answer to a question, the appellant said he would do nothing if the Japanese effected a landing and molested his sisters. Decision in the case was reserved.
