CHILDREN ENTERTAINED

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREAT The children of deceased returned soldiers were entertained on Saturday afternoon in the First Church grounds at the annual Christmas treat given for them by the Returned Services’ Association. One hundred and .twenty-two invitations were sent out to parents and children, and there was an excellent attendance. 'During the first part of the afternoon the ice cream and soft drink stalls were well patronised until the gathering retired to Burns Hall, where the president of the Returned Services’ Association, Mr W. E. Earnshaw. gave an address. Father Christmas thep arrived and told of his experiences on his way to Dunedin. He then presented each child with a suitable gift. All present entered into the spirit of the races for the children held on the -adjoining ground.
