WOMEN'S MISSIONARY UNION
METHODIST CONFERENCE The Methodist Women's Missionary Union commenced its business session in Dunedin yesterday morning, a communion service conducted by the Rev. B. Metson, assisted by the Revs. G. Laurcnson. Pybus and Jefferson, preceding the agenda. An address was Riven by the Rev. W. A. Burley. The president (Mrs Taylor) extended a welcome to visitors, missionary sisters on furlough, and delegates. Reporters and committees were appointed, and about 76 delegates answered the roll call.
An invitation to hold the next conference at Napier was accepted. The annual report showed an increase in membership, finance and new branches. The balance sheet and various other reports were also presented and adopted. The afternoon session opened with devotions. Greetings were acknowledger! from representatives of the Salvation Army. Presbyterian. Congregational Anglican and Baptist Churches, and the Church of Christ.
Co-operation was the basis of Mrs Tartar's presidential address. Even in a year of war, she said, the missionary work had Brown, though some had doubted. Bv working together in the cause of God much had been done. Sister Ada Lee. who recently returned from the Solomon Islands on furlough, also addressed the meeting, and told of her work as a teacher in South Bougainville. The earthquake two years ago, she stated, did a great deal of damage to mission property, while a flood had also affected the mission crops. Mr Voyce's scheme of rice planting had been a great success, and the natives were encouraged to grow rice. A solo was suns by Mrs Sparrow.
