ST. KILDA COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr N. D. Anderson) and Crs G. Glue, J. C. Cherry E Longworth. T. D. B. Roy, R. S. Brent, J. H. Hinton, H. H. Johnson. A. H. Finnic and W. Rutherford. Financial It was reported that there was a credit balance in the bank of £3281 9s Bd. The receipts during the past fortnight had amounted to £322 3s. and the accounts paid had totalled £387 6s sd. General Mr J. Branthwaite, town clerk of Oamaru, wrote stating that at a meeting of the Borough of Oamaru the following motion had been adopted unanimously:—" That. the Government be urged to introduce legislation to reduce substantially the liability of local bodies for hospital expenditure." It was asked that the council should support the motion.—The Mayor said he understood the motive behind the motion was that the responsibility for the upkeep of hospitals was the responsibility of the Government. —It was decided to support the motion. Mr A. E. Russell, secretary of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council, wrote stating that his council had decided that direct representation of the council on the executive of the Patriotic Council could not be acceded to. If the request were granted similar representation would have to be given to the six other borough councils in the Dunedin zone.—The letter was received. Water Consumption It was notified that 4,179,000 gallons of water had been consumed during the past fortnight, at a cost of £165 8s sd. The amount paid to the City Council for the previous fortnight was £l6l 6s lOd. Motor Drivers' Licences The traffic inspector (Mr F. T. Delargey) reported that.he had issued 11 drivers' licences during the week. Night patrol duty had been carried out during the past fortnight, and a few drivers had been warned in regard to the night parking of their cars. The report was adopted.
