SHIPPING CONTROL

UNITED STATES POOL A former New Zealander. Mr H. H. Robson, was the man with whom Mr J. G. Coates, M.P., had to discuss shipping allocations for the New Zealand trade when on his mission to the United States recently. Mr Robson, who is now a naturalised American, is in charge of the Division of Emergency Shipping, set up bv the Maritime Commission. HS is president of the Shipping Pool and of the Priorities Bureau.

Son of a former publisher of the Lyttelton Times and the Christchurch StarSun, Mr Robson was educated at Canterbury College as an engineer, and went to America some time after gaining his degree. He joined up with the Grace Line, one of the biggest ship-owning companies in America, and it was not long before his all-round ability took him out of the engine room and into the executive side of the company's operations. Later he was given the vice-presidency of the United Fruits' fleet of steamers engaged in carrying tropical fruits from Southern and Central America to New York.
