MANCHESTER UNITY
The Loyal Princess Mary Lodge had a very large muster of members and representatives of Loyal Centenary, Caversham, Albion, and Hand and Heart Lodges at its recent meeting, which was presided over by N.G. Sis. V. Donaldson, and two members of the District Executive were present. The Juvenile Lodge was entertained at a theatre. The card games arranged were abandoned, and this form of entertainment will be run on the next lodge night. One new member was initiated and Prov. OS. Bro. Sligo congratulated the lodge on its rendering of the ritual. A feature of the meeting of the Loyal Caversham Lodge was the reception of the report of delegates to the district meeting. N.G. Bro. D. Mowat presided. The lodge entertained the members of the combined juvenile lodges at games and competitions. It was resolved that in future no function of the adult lodge should eventuate on the night of the juvenile lodge meeting. P.G. Bro. Ron Dickson read extracts from a letter received from P.G. Bro. Val Parker, on active service, in which he forwarded greetings to fellow Oddfellows. Felicitations were conveyed by a member of the Loyal Mataura Lodge. The entertainment for next meeting will be sponsored by the elective officers.
A pleasant evening was spent in' the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, Port Chalmers, and the wives and lady friends of members were entertained at trump whist. Prizes were awarded to Sis. V. Donaldson and Mrs Gardiner and Bros. W. M. Robb and J. Peek. A pleasing feature was the attendance of N.G. Sis. V. Donaldson and five members of the Loyal Princess Mary Lodge. On Saturday evening members of the Portobello Lodge, 1.0.0. F., were entertained at the annual cards match. A fine fraternity exists between the Portobello and the Port Chalmers Lodges, who interchange visits regularly, the former lodge was successful in winning the contest. Several members notified the meeting of Loyal Albion Lodge that they had been posted to various camps. City and suburban lodges paid their respects to the Loyal Albion on the occasion of the annual official visit. Prov. Guardian Bro. T. Penny made his initial appearance as a member of the District Executive with the Prov. G.M., who was accompanied by the Prov. Warden and I.P.P.G.M. Lodges represented were the Loyal Princess Mary (in full force), Centenary, Valley, Prince of Wales, Caversham, Dunedin. A lady member of an Auckland lodge was present. An excellent programme of items was presented by Mrs Harman, Mrs C. M. Bartlett, Mrs Hall Masters, Miss Moody, Messrs W. Stevenson and Arthur Macdonald (songs); sleight of hand. Mr Geddes; tap dancing, the Misses Moody (3); duets, Mrs Harman, Mrs Bartlett, and Messrs Finnie and M. and-G. McKinlay; quartetMrs Harman, Mrs Bartlett, and Messrs Finnie and McKinlay. Reference was made to the service rendered to the lodge over a period of years by Mr G. McKinlay, who is proceeding to camp. In a fortnight the lodge will celebrate its seventyseventh birthday.
