RETURNED SOLDIERS

PORT CHALMERS ASSOCIATION STRONGER FINANCIAL POSITION The annual meeting of the Port Chalmers Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last night, when the president. Mr J. McElwee, occupied the chair. There was a good attendance, including several representatives of the Dunedin Pieturned Soldiers' Association. The president moved the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, which showed that the year had been commenced with the sum of £l2 10s lOd in hand, and had ended with a balance of £3O Is Id. Mr O. L. Ferens, secretary of the Dunedin Association, Mr W. K. Cameron and Mr W. A. Thomson congratulated the association on having effected such a marked improvement. The report and balance sheet were adopted, , „ Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr H. S. Watson; vice-presi-dent. Mr J. Coleman: secretary, Mr J. Thorn: committee—Messrs J. Hay, J. Smith. W. Carrington. F. Way. J, G. O'Neill, and H. Campbell; auditor, Mr C. S. D. Aitcheson.

Several speakers expressed the hope that the association could see Its way to obtain a clubroom for the use of members, and one member offered to start a fund for the purpose. The Question was held over for further discussion at a later date.
